Callum Robson: Bringing the Aussie Mongrel Back to the CT- Currently Gearing Up for the 2025 Season After Launching His New Brand Project 06.

Callum Robson, the powerhouse from New South Wales, is making waves in the competitive surfing world, ranking eighth on the Championship Tour (CT) in 2022. With a second-place finish at Bells and a Challenger Series win at the Gold Coast, Robson’s powerful and precise surfing has set him apart in his rookie season. But it’s his maturity and competitive drive that have really turned heads. Here's what we learned from chatting with him:

  1. Aussie Mongrel Returns to the CT
Robson, alongside rising talents like Ethan Ewing, Jack Robinson, and Jackson Baker, is part of a new wave of Australian surfers bringing a fierce, determined attitude back to the CT. "I feel like we’re bringing the mongrel back," Robson says, eager to take on the big names and win at all costs.

  2. Sponsors Are Calling
Despite no major sponsorships yet, Robson’s impressive results have led to increased interest. After his Gold Coast victory, he’s had several sponsors reach out. “I’m just going to let it happen organically,” he says, focused on his performance while considering future opportunities.

  3. Fresh Challenges on the Back Half of the Tour
Robson heads into the latter half of the 2022 tour with no prior experience at some of the iconic breaks like G-Land, Teahupo’o, and J-Bay. But he’s excited for the challenge and views it as an opportunity to elevate his surfing.

  4. João Chianca’s Incredible Year
Robson is full of praise for João Chianca, calling him the most impressive surfer on the CT this year. “He’s been ripping in those heats,” Robson notes, expressing disappointment that Chianca won’t be finishing the season but predicting a strong return next year.

  5. Coaching Experience Gives Him an Edge
Before his CT debut, Robson worked as a coach at the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre. This experience has helped him better understand what judges look for and improved his ability to analyze and fine-tune his own surfing.

  6. A Fierce Competitor
For Robson, surfing isn’t just about the art; it’s about the competition. He draws inspiration from surfers like Medina, Mick Fanning, and Italo Ferreira, appreciating their passion and commitment to pushing themselves to the limit.

  7. A Mindset Shift Took Him to the Top 10
Robson's journey to the CT was different from prodigies like Jack Robinson. He attributes his success to a shift in mindset—letting go of pressure and expectations and embracing the chance to give it his all.

In addition to his success on the waves, Robson is giving back by running a fundraiser to support those affected by the Northern Rivers floods, with proceeds going to GIVIT charity and the Mid-Richmond Neighbourhood Centre.

Callum Robson’s rise in the surfing world is just beginning, and with his raw talent, fierce mentality, and humble approach, there’s no telling how far he’ll go.
